Motive SX1 reviews.
The first reviews of the Motive SX1 loudspeaker are now available. Of all the recently upgraded SX models, the SX1 is the most dramatically improved, in terms of the internal configuration, tuning, voicing - and its musical performance.
Starting with HiFi Choice magazine, where the SX1 receives a 5-star 'Recommended' rating from Ed Selley, the review concludes:
"The Neat is a fantastically accomplished all-rounder that will do justice to a wide variety of music... A superb revision to an already capable speaker."
Andrew Everard is the Audio Editor of Gramophone magazine. His online review of the Motive SX1 can be viewed on his new website: andreweverard.com
"Smaller than you might think, NEAT’s latest Motive SX1 speakers deliver an unmissably thrilling ride."
Neat Acoustics are first to install the new
HILL ACOUSTICS Tetrahedal Test System.
It's well known that Neat loudspeakers are designed and voiced by ear, with minimal influence from test measurements. However, once a design is perfected it's important to ensure consistency and pair matching of all components in the finished product.
Obtaining reliable drive unit measurements has long been the most difficult aspect of quality control - until now.
The Hill Acoustics* Tetrahedal test enclosure is a brand new state-of-the-art enclosed system which has been impressing industry professionals at recent AES (Audio Engineering Society) conventions in the USA and Germany. Neat Acoustics is proud to be the first company in the world to have installed one of these systems in the testing room at the Barnard Castle factory.
Neat MD and founder, Bob Surgeoner says "The Hill Acoustics system enables us to extract extremely detailed information on drive unit behaviour within a few seconds. It will help to facilitate even greater production efficiency at Neat in the future."
* Geoff Hill is the man behind the Hill Acoustics Tetrahedal Test System. A top drive-unit designer, he has worked with many major loudspeaker companies around the world and, recently, as a consultant on the latest Neat drive units. The system works by eliminating standing waves by design, and utilises acoustic foam to eliminate any remaining high frequency issues. Customised interchangeable baffles ensure a rapid changeover of drive units during test runs.

Absolute Sound magazine;
IOTA: But it was another Neat speaker that absolutely blew me away—the $995 per pair Iota... The Iota gets my vote for greatest bargain at the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest.
ULTIMATUM XL10: ..the XL10 showed very high resolution and superb transient response... this was an good presentation with outstanding definition and surprising deep bass.

The Iota is also highlighted in a What HiFi 'Ultimate Guide' in the current issue. "So these speakers are flexible, dinky, stylish and sonically superb. If there's a downside to the Neat Iotas, we haven't found it."

The Munich High End show is one of the most important hifi shows in the world. This year Neat showed a display of several of the most popular models, and also featured the new IOTA speaker, playing on a modest system and placed on an IKEA sideboard, and supported by isolation cones.
This was possibly the smallest and least imposing system at the show, but visitors were very, very surprised by what they heard. Here is a short film from the show: Iota @ Munich
20th April 2012.
More good news for the IOTA, with a wonderfully comprehensive review in the May issue of the highly respected Gramophone magazine. The Iota has received the 'Product Of the Month' Accolade and the review concludes;
"The Iotas are, to put it simply, outrageously accomplished speakers, even with large-scale works."
5th April 2012
The IOTA loudspeaker has come top of the mini-speaker roundup in the current issue of LIVE magazine;
Verdict The best tiny speakers we’ve heard. They produce astonishingly musical and large-scale sound from their colourful cabinets. They’re a perfect partner for similarly cut-sized high-end hi-fi, especially kit capable of streaming music.

Ten stars for the IOTA.
Following another excellent showing at Bristol Sound & Vision last month, the first two reviews of the IOTA loudspeaker have now appeared - in What Hi Fi and Hi Fi Choice. Both reviews confirm the IOTA's growing status as a genuine audio product in miniature form.

Iota loudspeaker launched at Manchester show.
The new Neat Iota loudspeaker received a tremendous reception from visitors when it was
launched at the Manchester Home Entertainment

This is a super-micro design of only 2.6 litres internal volume, weighing less than 4Kg. It can be used close to the wall in situations where space is limited, yet it offers a world-class performance of astonishing scale and dynamics previously unavailable in a speaker of this size or price.

Petite SX wins What Hi Fi? group test.
The classic PETITE SX loudspeaker has topped a goup test of compact loudspeakers in the current issue of What HiFi magazine...
"Excellent resolution, timing and focus make for a compelling listen...to hear them is to love them."
Ultimatum XLi launched at Munich High End Show 2011.
The new floorstanding Ultimatum XLi received very warm praise from visitors at this prestigious show.
The XLi is a partner to the standmount XLS model, released earlier this year. For listeners enjoying the astonishing performance of the XLS, but preferring not to have a standmounted speaker in the home environment, the XLi is essentially the same ingredients in a more aesthetically pleasing form.
The XLi will be available from July 2011.
Ultimatum XLS debuts at Bristol Sound & Vision.
The latest Ultimatum model to receive the 'XL' upgrades has made its first public appearance.
The Ultimatum XLS, an improved version of the award-winning MFS model, created quite a stir at February's S&V show, delivering a performance which was judged by visitors to be superior to many much larger and more costly designs at the show.
The XLS features a birch plywood cabinet, isobaric bass loading, membrane-coupled baffles, Sonomex domed tweeter, upward-firing super tweeters and a revised crossover.
This latest addition to the next generation of Ultimatum loudspeakers will be shipping in April 2011.
Another 5 stars for the Motive 2.
Ultimatum XL6 now shipping!
The XL6 received a very warm reponse at Milan's Top-Audio show in September.
This is the first of an exciting new breed of Ultimatum loudspeakers. It incorporates some subtle yet highly effective innovations including a new implementation of the EMIT super tweeters, the sub-bass arrangement as used in the top-of-range MF9 model, a new soft dome tweeter and a revised plinth & spike arrangement.
The Ultimatum XL6 is a domestically friendly 98cm tall, yet it is capable of of great power and delicacy when required. The first demonstration stocks wil be reaching dealers and distributors during October and November.
Motive SE2 now shipping!
The astonishing Motive SE2, which won many hearts at the Brsitol Sound & Vision show earlier this year, is now shipping to Neat dealers all over the world. Reviews will be appearing soon.
Petites make a big impression - in What HiFi magazine
The exciting new Motive SE2 loudspeaker is a special edition of the regular Motive 2, transforming it into a discreet and compact design with serious audio credentials. (It will not replace the standard Motive 2, which continues in production.)
The SE2 incorporates several significant upgrades, notably the use of the EMIT planar magnetic tweeter, which is compliantly mounted within its own discrete volume to minimise the effects of vibration and rear pressure from the main drive unit. A new crossover and bass tuning alignment are employed and the cabinet features improved internal bracing and damping.
The Motive SE2 is extremely revealing without being overtly analytical, and it paints a huge sonic picture, making it the perfect solution for those seeking a superior musical experience from a compact and stylish package.
The MOTIVE SE2 will be available from mid-June 2010
A Happy and Prosperous New Year to all our customers!
We have some exciting developments planned for 2010, just watch this space for further information.
New SX models reviewed!
The new Elite SX has received an excellent first review in the February edition of Hi Fi World magazine. It concludes;
"Unerringly musical and consummately enjoyable, this loudspeaker is an essential audition for rhythm seekers."
The Petite SX is also reviewed in glowing terms in the current issue of Hi Fi Plus magazine;
"Indeed, there is something almost uncanny about the musicality of Neat's designs. They exhibit a natural rightness and a musically persusive quality that seems to elude 99 per cent of all others in my view."
Twenty years ago, the first prototype samples of a new compact standmount loudspeaker were fired up, in the back room of Neat's retail premises; North Eastern Audio Traders.
It was christened the Neat PETITE, and rapidly became a benchmark for musical communication.
In the intervening years it's undergone a number of improvements and refinements. The latest incarnation, the PETITE SX (above)
is now shipping worldwide.
Ultimatum MFS reviewed in What Hi Fi? magazine.
The Ultimatum MFS loudspeaker has earned yet another five-star review. This time it's What HiFi? magazine doing the honours, reviewing its first ever Ultimatum model. They summarise;
" Once in a while we come across equipment that doesn't merely replay the signal fed to it, but actually sounds as if it's enjoying itself. That's these Neats all over. We love them."
Ultimatum MFS review in Hi Fi World magazine.
The Ultimatum MFS loudspeaker has received a stunning review in the March 2009 issue of Hi Fi World magazine, scoring top marks of
5 'globes', their highest available rating. The magazine describes the MFS as being "Unerringly musical and consumately enjoyable, this is one of the most engaging standmounters we've heard at the price."
Momentum 3i in What Hi Fi Sound & Vision
Another 5-star review for Neat in the June issue of the biggest-selling UK Hi Fi magazine. This time it's the Momentum 3i collecting the honours;
"A fast, dynamic and massively enjoyable sound....the Momentum 3is have a deeply impressive bass performance. It is taut and punches with a ferocity you'd scarcely credit from a box that stands just 38cm high....the Momentum 3is are as musical as they come"
What Hi Fi June 2008.
Neat speakers featured in a What Hi Fi? system test this month (using Naim’s entry level pre-power amps and a CD5X cd player), winning 5 stars in the context of an overall 5-star system score.
Naim Audio specifically requested Neat loudspeakers for this review and this result again confirms the widely held view that Neat and Naim are a winning combination. Of course, there are other electronics available which also give superb results when partnered with Neat loudspeakers….
The Momentum 3i standmount loudspeaker has received an excellent ‘Best Buy’ review in the current (November) issue of Hi-Fi Choice magazine. This glowing review judges that the Momentum 3i is
“brilliant at delivering all manner of delicate and subtle details deep down into the mix, making music much more human and believable.”
It concludes “A superbly informative and dynamic design with all the virtues of a high-class standmount, that also delivers the bass weight and authority of a floorstander. It’s a very realistic musical communicator at a very realistic price.”
The Momentum 4i floorstander has also been reviewed by Hi-Fi World magazine, winning a 4-globe recommendation;
“The Momentum 4is turn in an accomplished performance. They incorporate some well though-out and innovative technologies and the musical aptitude of their designer shines through in many aspects of their performance.”
“For anyone wanting a stylish, well designed and constructed floorstander with superb bass weight and an atmospheric nature, the Momentum 4is should definitely be on the audition list.”
Watch out for further Momentum reviews in Hi-Fi Plus and Hi-Fi Critic magazines over the coming weeks.
Naim SUPERNAIT amplifier and Neat MOTIVE 1s; a marriage made in heaven - it's official!
The first published review of Naim Audio's new Supernait amp has appeared in the June issue of Hi Fi Choice magazine. Malcolm Steward (who also wrote the very first review of the Neat Petite loudspeaker in 1991), used a pair of Motive 1 speakers to put the Supernait through its paces.
He concludes that "it turned out to be a marriage made in heaven. Each product gelled with the other to form what proved to be an intensely satisfying and dynamic musical joint venture....the Supernait and the Neats seemed able to dig deeper still into the music and get to those telling, often quite deeply submerged, nuances with immeasurable dexterity."
There has always been tremendous synergy between Naim electronics and Neat loudspeakers. We look forward to getting some hands-on experience with the Supernait in the near future.
